Bridges

Photo of the Benville Bridge Four stone arch bridges are known to exist within the JPG boundaries. The bridges are excellent example of masonry engineering bridge design.

Bridge No. 17, the Edwards Ford Bridge, constructed in 1910-1911, is listed in the Indiana State Register of Historic Sites and Structures.

Bridge No. 25, the Marble Creek Bridge, was constructed in 1905, and is also listed in the State Register.

Photo of the Benville BridgeBridge No. 27, the Benville Bridge, is located on Graham Creek near the installation's western boundary. This triple-arch bridge was constructed in 1908, and is listed in the State Register.

Bridge No. 28, the Collins Ford Bridge, is located on Graham Creek, near the eastern boundary of JPG. This double-arch bridge was built in 1907, and is also listed in the State Historic Register.

Photo of the Benville BridgeThe 4 bridges (Nos. 17, 25, 27, and 28) were nominated for inclusion in the NRHP and approved by the Department of the Army. The nominations then were forwarded to the National Park Service and were added to the NRHP. All four of these bridges were officially added to the National Historic Register in July 30, 1996.

JPG also has several steel truss bridges older than the stone-arch bridges which are potentially eligible for nomination to the National Historic Register.
